SIE-U15 / Visual concept
Each daily return applies to a new base.
Start a benchmark and a hypothetical daily 2× product at $100. The benchmark rises 20%, then falls by one-sixth. Assume exact daily targeting, no fees, tracking error or distributions.
SIE-U15 / Worked case
Benchmark: 100 × 1.20 = $120. Daily 2× product: 100 × 1.40 = $140.
Benchmark: 120 × 5/6 = $100. Product: 140 × 2/3 = $93.33… . Its second-day loss applies to $140.
The benchmark’s two-day return is zero; the product loses 6⅔%. Doubling the zero period return ignores the daily reset.
No. Daily compounding and the return path matter. Actual products also have costs, tracking effects and their own terms.
An ETN is typically unsecured issuer debt and adds issuer credit risk; it is not an ETF portfolio simply because both trade on an exchange.
A practical study routine
Use the guide actively: make a decision before checking the answer, then bring the lesson into your next attempt.
Step 1
Name who is doing what and which financial claim is involved.
Step 2
Use the transaction facts and relevant distinction to choose an answer.
Step 3
Review what the conclusion does not establish and consult current official rules separately.

The call-option example makes payoff and profit easy to distinguish. Checking the contract amount as well as the per-share amount is useful, and the second price shows why being above the strike doesn't always mean a profit. Keeping the premium in both examples gives the distinction a clear basis rather than making it another pair of labels to memorize.
The ledger separates execution, clearing and settlement. I like that the confirmation isn't treated as proof of completed delivery, and that the supplied net obligation is worked through rather than simply named.
The bond example keeps the purchase and sale prices visible while comparing the different return measures. It gives a clear reason for the percentages to differ, rather than leaving similar labels to memorize.
The two-day leveraged-product example takes a little care, but the changing base makes the point clear. The explanation shows why a daily multiple can't simply be carried over to the whole period.
The account case is helpful for understanding how inconsistent information should be preserved and escalated. I appreciate the distinction between facts that need review and enough evidence to conclude that wrongdoing happened.
