AZ-U09 / Visual concept
Verify context, narrow the grant union and observe allowed misuse.
A fictional identity should read Source and write Results only. Its complete grants are R1: read Source/Results/Archive; R2: read Source; R3: write Results; R4: write Archive. A valid session reads Source unusually often.
AZ-U09 / Worked case
Evaluate relevant identity, device and request context. A private address or successful earlier sign-in does not certify every later action.
Through the authorized process, remove surplus R1/R4 and retain R2/R3. Adding another narrow role does not cancel an existing broad grant.
Denial-only logs miss unusually frequent successful reads. Collect scoped successful data-operation evidence and assess the defined behavior condition.
No. Session verification and data-operation behavior answer different evidence questions. Test both permitted and prohibited operations after correction.
No other grants or denies apply in this closed teaching model. These custom sets are not Azure built-in role definitions. No tenant access or alert is configured.
A practical study routine
Use the guide actively: make a decision before checking the answer, then bring the lesson into your next attempt.
Step 1
Name the resource and the management boundary involved.
Step 2
Explain whether the problem concerns permission, policy, connectivity, or cost.
Step 3
Compare the explanation and revisit the effect of the chosen control.

The deployment example makes RBAC, Policy and locks easier to separate. I like seeing them affect a particular operation, rather than reading three definitions and trying to remember which one matters when something fails. The side-by-side reasoning is the part that makes the distinction useful, especially when more access would not address the actual issue.
The budget example checks the notification and the action as separate things. That simple distinction makes the explanation useful: receiving an email doesn't, on its own, show that spending has stopped.
The storage comparison puts an outage beside an overwritten file. It's a helpful way to see why replication and recovering an earlier version solve different problems, even though both sound like protection.
The archive example needs a careful read, but the comparison is useful. Retrieval time, resilience and the charging assumptions all stay visible, so the cheapest daily storage rate isn't treated as the whole decision.
The dependency example explains which resources can progress together. I also like that the what-if result is kept separate from an applied configuration and from checking whether the workload behaves as intended.
